We're starting our 60th year in business and “remembrances of things past” would fill a book. It was a small beginning with tight finances when we started putting up a 42 x 62 foot brick and concrete building on an out-lot on US Route 224 in the small but centrally-located town of New Haven, OH, but the founders were full of confidence. It was not easy to convince manufacturers to go with a brand new distributor who was starting fresh in the business against competition that consisted of large well established and financed giants in Cleveland Toledo, and Columbus, but with a lot of tears and moxie we made it,

New Haven Supply first opened its doors for business in the spring of 1948 with three full time employees. Initial inventory consisted of steel and iron pipe and fittings and copper tubing and fittings. Deliveries to customers were handled by the company's single delivery truck. This truck also made weekly trips to Cleveland to pick up pipe fittings, copper, steel pipe and even trips to Chattanooga, TN for soil pipe. Fixtures came at first from Richmond, then Eljer, Kohler (until the 1954 strike) and finally American Standard.

The 1950's saw New Haven Supply company not only substantially increase its sales figures, but increase its physical plant with eight separate additions to the original building, which expanded the combined warehouse and office area from 2,400 to almost 20,000 square feet. It was also during this time that New Haven Supply Company began to greatly enlarge upon its original inventory and add many new product lines. In 1958 a full line of electrical supplies became available with the establishment of our electrical division.

Continuing growth marked the 60's with the addition of more delivery trucks and increased office and warehouse personnel, together with a larger sales staff. More new product lines were added, sales continued to increase and marketing areas were expanded.

The 70's saw more of the same, with each year's sales topping the previous year. Additional personnel were taken on, facilities were expanded and upgraded, and more new product lines were added. New Haven Supply now carried 16,000 different items for resale to industrial, commercial, and trade accounts.

In 1980 the warehouse was expanded, almost doubling the physical area of New Haven Supply.
More product lines and customers were added. In 1987 New Haven Supply became computerized , which helped better control the inventory, speed up the customer wait time at the counter, and provide better service to our customers.

The 90's were quite a decade for change at New Haven. We were no longer a one store distributor.
1990 was the year that our Tiffin Store was opened, and soon after became an American Standard Registered Showplace. Our Norwalk store was the next to be opened in 1995, with Upper Sandusky being opened in 1996, and last but not least our Mansfield Store was opened in 1997. And, as in all previous decades, our customer and supplier base expanded, which allowed for an expanded fleet of trucks and a larger delivery radius. In 1999, the computer system of the 80's was upgraded to allow us to better be prepared for the new millineum.

We are proud of New Haven Supply, being an area-based organization, made up of home-town folks, not branches of Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus or elsewhere but at home right where our customers live and work. We're modern, financially sound, and bigger than most people think-- able to handle almost any situation—and looking to the future with the confidence that comes from succeeding in tough competition.
